Artist Statement
I try to capture something of the experience of being in a particular space, of having a particular view. In any landscape, I am aware of two oppositional aspects simultaneously, a multiplicity of elements within a total unity. I typically aspire to express this duality within the constraints of my medium.
Here is what persists in my art-making after several decades:
● Building up images or structures with an accumulation of discrete units;
● Representing landscape, typically aspiring to express the picturesque;
● Working in collage with common materials;
● Presenting objects or images that can offer an experience of contemplation and visual pleasure.
I am inspired by all forms of decoration. I continue to be inspired by art history, particularly the roots, trajectory and decline of modern art.
