'Northumberland Drawings',
The Main, 2024- Port Hope
Landscape is a rich, varied genre of painting and drawing. I have found inspiration in viewing and representing landscapes since my earliest days as a visual artist. I love the challenge of representing something that is infinitely expansive (the world) in a modest way (small scale drawing of painting). There is power in the transformation of black marks on a page into a window on our world. This transformation takes place in the perception and imagination of the viewer.
These works are my interpretations of real places that we inhabit, places we use to grow food, to dig up gravel, to harvest trees or to go for a walk.
